The January transfer window is typically a period of significant rumour and possible big-money deals. Numerous high-profile players are being linked with moves out of their present clubs. We examine some of the top names who could be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to qualify for the AFCON, this has left the player in contention, indications are a significant move is close. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spain that he would be prepared to accept a reduced salary for a move to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

This experienced German shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barcelona following new manager Hansi Flick. Having lost his place and undergone surgery, a winter exit looks highly likely. Aston Villa were initially linked as a potential destination, but that option now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This proven English striker has kept finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might boost his dwindling hopes of making the England squad. But, securing a transfer poses major hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his reported enormous salary make any agreement complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all mentioned as interested parties.

The Turin club are desperate to secure the youngster to a lengthy contract but are in a battle to retain one of the continent's most promising prospects.

K. Smit

This much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has earned parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ side. The 19-year-old is heavily expected to make a major move in January. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but are facing stiff competition from Real Madrid for a signing priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
